Importing Products from China - Newbie Needs Info on Taxation
 

Hello !

I would like to make a plastic product in China. I decided to deal with one manufacturer in Shenzhen. When I asked for a receipt for the sample fee, they stated that they could send a signed and stamped invoice to me and if I were to get a receipt, there will be a 6% tax added to the price of the sample.

I was also told that the agreed unit price (should I go ahead to make a large order) does not include the 6% tax.

I had bought a 20 foot container of products from several manufacturers in Guangzhou 8 years ago, and the issue with a local Chinese tax of 6% had never arisen.

Please can I get advice - is this 6% tax something new?
