George Baker is proud to have founded George Baker (Shipping) Ltd way back in 1982. The company was established in the Port of Ipswich, providing ship’s agency and Customs brokerage services. The ambitious young family business soon earned a reputation as specialists in Customs clearance and opened additional port offices in Harwich and Felixstowe serving importers, exporters and also fellow freight professionals.

However, the removal of the European borders in 1993 meant that Customs clearance ********ation was no longer required for inter-community movements and it became necessary to look at new areas of development.

Boosted growth from 2000 onwards saw the Company start to fulfil its ambition of widening its range of ‘in house’ services with the warehousing division in particular taking shape. Between 2005 and 2007 the company began to move away from its previously outsourced facilities.

Celebrating 25 years in business in February 2007, George introduced son David into the company to oversee the warehousing operation, and long serving Nikki Farmer joined the board of directors as Company Secretary. A move to a new high profile premises within the port, incorporating new offices, warehouses and a distribution centre followed in 2009.

In February 2012 the company celebrated its 30th birthday. Newly incorporated sister company George Baker (Transport) Ltd was off to a successful start allowing the company to now also provide customers with a guaranteed reliable and cost effective container delivery service.

Hard work and steady development over the years has enabled George Baker (Shipping) Ltd to emerge as a leading provider of a comprehensive range quality freight services. These now include air & sea freight and European transport divisions, complementing the established range of port centric services, and the nationwide Customs clearance facilities for which it is renowned.

The company remains a genuine family owned and run business, proud of its reputation for integrity and neutrality.
